I hope I don't regret this.

Normally I have a strict no one touches my cars but me policy, but the new to me Suburban needs an erl change. Cold, wet weather and a fresh baby in the house means I don’t have the time. Also, coupons.

I asked what viscosity they used... “I dont know what that means.” I said 5w30 will be fine... who knows what im going to get.

I’ve had to do quick lube places in time of need as well.

I go to Walmart and buy my own oil and filter for them to use. Especially since I don’t want them screwing on one of their cheap in-house oil filters.

I watch them while they work so they know I’m watching. Though try not to be an ass about it, strike up a conversation about something interesting as you stand there close by.

Some quick lube places actually have competent people. If you find one, consider yourself lucky and remember to go there when you can’t do it yourself.

Also, most factory dealerships have great deals on oil changes that occasionally make them cheaper than quick lube shops. Just be prepared for the mandatory upsell, though you will get that from quick lube shops as well.

I’ve never had someone fuck up an oil change for me. But others have. I just don’t worry about it and if a car is destroyed in the process(I would have been lucky tbh) the store will end up paying for it in some way.

I think I’d run screaming from there if I was in your shoes.

The one oil change I’ve ever paid for in my life I watched like a hawk. I also asked for a unusual viscosity (20w-50 on an older pickup in the hot Texas summer). The didn’t have it in their handy oil guns, but were happy to get it out of bulk storage on the side and pour it in with a funnel.
